Emerald Princess 06/14/2010

8:38 PM/
Summer vacation!  It started a bit abruptly for my family this year.  I guess for us seniors, it officially started on Friday, June 4, but Mitchell still had school.

Saturday, June 5
Went to Tae Kwon Do in the morning, then rendezvoused with Leanna downtown to look for Tiffany's parting gift ( :( ).  Went to the Safeway near the beach (THANK YOU Megan for picking us up and saving us), bought supplies and then headed to the beach for the bonfire.  It was really nice. :) I miss you, Tiffany!  Good luck in Massachusetts. :)

Went home, did my last minute packing (a.k.a. prepping my backpack full of electronics and goodies), washed up, and waited for the ride to the airport.

We got on our plane in the nick of time--when we got to the terminal they started boarding, so we hopped on.  It was the first time we flew with Virgin America, and I really like it!  We flew business class as usual, and every seat is equipped with it's own personal touch screen.  You can order food/drinks, listen to music, watch tv/movies (well, okay, you have to pay for the movies and I wasn't about to do that)...too bad the flight was a red eye, so I didn't do much.

Sunday, June 6
When we landed in Florida's Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL), I had this funky side cramp because sleeping on an airplane sucks.  We landed at about 8 AM EST, but weren't allowed to head to Port Everglades to board the ship until 11 AM EST.  All of us were so tired, we just settled in on some benches/chairs in the airport and slept.  Mom said she felt like a hobo just sleeping there, haha!

When we finally stepped aboard the Emerald Princess, we stumbled to our rooms, Riveria Deck 14, R323 and R327.  The kids got the first room and the parents got the second.  I don't quite remember what we did after that, but I'm pretty sure it involved going up to Deck 15, Horizon Court (buffet) to eat lunch.  I LOVE FOOD!

We watched their "Welcome Aboard!" production, and realized that the singers on the Emerald Princess weren't as good as the ones last year, on the Sea Princess.  I fell asleep.

Monday, June 7
First stop: Princess Cay, Bahamas.  It's Princess Cruises private island: mainly a small strip of beach.  I woke up late so we didn't head off the ship until noonish.  We rented out a four person peddle boat, like the ones at Stow Lake, so the guys and I took that out into the water while Mom stayed behind to take pictures and watch out stuff.  After that, we had lunch at the BBQ the food staff set up on the island, then went back to the ship.

That night, after dinner, we watched another production show called "Motor City," a tribute to Motown tunes.  I fell asleep again.

Tuesday, June 8
Sea day!  Spent the day being super lazy.  The boys and I watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on TV.  Funny movie! :)

It was formal night for dinner, and I think we saw a comedian/magician afterward.

Wednesday, June 9
Second stop: Ocho Rios, Jamaica.  Okay, let me just say that I do NOT feel safe in this country.  There was some confusion with the tour guide: they work in Florida time and we were operating off of Jamaican time (one hour earlier), but everything worked out okay.  We first went to the Dunn's River Falls and climbed the waterfall.  After that, we went horseback riding--it was really fun because there was a portion where we got to ride in the WATER ... the water probably went up to my waist level and the horse galloped!  :)  I did lose my sunglasses somewhere though. :(  My dad says it's okay 'cause he got them for free.

Thursday, June 10
Third Stop: George Town, Grand Cayman.  This place is actually really nice.  It's super developed, and apparently all the rich people dump their money here.  We took a tour to see the Sea Turtle Farm and Hell (a city).  The Sea Turtle Farm was SO COOL!  I'll post pictures on Facebook later.  I got to hold juvenile sea turtles! :)

Hell, on the other hand, was lame.  It's just a "city" made up of like, a billboard and one building: a post office-gift shop.  I took a few pictures, but didn't bother buying anything.

Oh, and inbetween those two places we stopped off at a rum shop where I got to sample some flavored rum cake.  Yum! :)

That night was formal night again for dinner.  Nelly...

Okay, so for some background information first: last year, aboard the Sea Princess, I got terribly sick on formal night #2, a.k.a. lobster night.  I ended up leaving dinner early to go to my room, and then I threw up in the sink.  Didn't touch my lobster, sigh. :(

This night was also lobster night.  I was feeling great as we walked to dinner.  I remember skipping down the hallway, telling my family, "Isn't it great not being suck?!"  Yeah, well.  After I ate the appetizer (some weird crab/shrimp/shellfish mixture...thing topped with caviar), my lip swelled up and my throat started tightening.  Luckily that went down after I drank a ton of ice water.  Then, I had the soup (frosty mango-peach smoothie with dried apricots).  I don't know if I drank it too fast or something, but my stomach hurt after that... By the time the lobster came, I didn't feel like doing anything because my stomach hurt so much.  I gave my dessert to Mitchell, and we headed off to see a comedian/juggler.

Midway through the show I crawled over to a bathroom and just hung out in there for about 10-15 minutes.  I crawled back to my family, and after the show ended we walked back to the room.  Only...I didn't quite make it back, as I threw up in the hallway. -__-  Sorry clean-up staff!

The comedian we saw later that night was really funny.  He did go into some deep stuff...I was gonna write about it but I'm too lazy too.  Maybe I'll write about it later.

Friday, June 11
Fourth Stop: Cozumel, Mexico.  It was alright.  Mexico is still full of perverted and inappropriate t-shirts.  This city is the most developed city in Mexico that I've ever visited.  We went to go see some Mayan Ruins (Mitchell really wanted to) and looked around some shopping areas.  After a while, I felt like every store just sells the same things at the same prices... o_o

That night we celebrated my parent's 22nd anniversary.

Saturday, June 12
OKAY I'M GETTING LAZY.  Will finish more later, maybe.  This was a sea day.  xD

I just listened to the Goo Goo Doll's newest single, "Home," on their website.

It sounds...okay.  Style-wise, I don't think I like it as much as their old stuff.  Maybe it'll grow on me over time.  But I'm still looking forward to their new album, "Something for the Rest of Us" -- release date 2010 TBA!!!

I do like this verse from "Home":
And I tried so hard
To be so strong.
But you see the cracks,
My defense is gone...

2:19 PM/

i woke up at one pm today.

i feel really unmotivated to do anything.  if it wasn't for ms. carney's encouraging words last week, i would not have been able to finish that out-of-class essay for her on friday.  eight days late.

it was a compare-contrast essay.  did i mention that i think compare-contrast essays are one of the hardest to write?  i remember fall semester in raznikov's class.  he was assigning us a compare-contrast and mentioned how those types of essays are one of the easiest to write.  i disagree.

anyway.  i'm sitting in front of the imac, punching away at the keyboard with the stubborn letters (i can type faster on the dell but i want to force myself to get used to this thing).  i'm supposed to be doing these practice tests for ap bio, but i don't wanna finish it.  14/120 questions done. hehe.

i think i mentioned this before, but lately i've just been waiting for the weeks to end.  monday, tuesday...friday, then saturday.  saturday turns into sunday, sunday turns into monday.  repeat.

is this senioritis or just a bad case of apathy?  ten hours until monday.  what am i looking forward to nowadays?

p.s. i feel really stupid for waiting too long to sign up for my cal student orientation, so now i have to be there from jun 28-29.  at least it ends on 1pm on the 29th, but still...the fact that this was a date that was totally, easily in my control but i let it slip makes me feel dumb -_-

11:38 PM/
I woke up this morning with a strange sense of confidence.  I had gone to bed the night before with a stomach full of butterflies, but as the day broke not a flutter was left.  I felt on top of the world--for a moment, there was not a doubt in my mind that we would do well that day.  We'd kick-ass.

Eight AM.  It may have been the collective panic of the entire head Staff, but somehow that confident feeling I'd be so readily equipped with was replaced by a sense of foreboding.  As we counted the minutes down to the inspectors' arrival, it dawned on us that this was it.  There would be no more practices--this was the real thing.

Nine thirty AM.  The Staff Briefing got rolling, and our inspectors' impressed reactions to our presentations gave me a sense of relief.  We had this.  We could do it.

Eleven thirty AM.  The inspection of the staff.  Perfect scores all around, and it was smooth sailing from there.

We did it.  600/600.  Perfect score.

Congratulations to the Lowell Battalion.
Congratulations to Roxane, Nymaya, and Tiffany for receiving those honorary coins.
Congratulations to all of us for pulling off an excellent BFI.
